Within days of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner announcing he was joining Major League Soccer, the brand was flooded with nearly 500,000 order requests for the light-pink jerseys, and it’s been playing catch-up ever since, reports The New York Times. Though counterfeiters may only approximate the Inter Miami team’s precise shade of Pantone 1895C pink, customers are nonetheless paying $40 or more for knock-off jerseys, “shoddy stitching” and all.

While Messi’s talent is undeniable, his presence in MLS makes the rest of the league look amateur by comparison. He rarely seems to break a sweat, leaving fans craving a more competitive atmosphere. This lack of parity diminished the excitement and appeal of the league.

Messi’s signing also shed light on the stark salary disparities within MLS. While he enjoyed a lucrative contract, many other players in the league have to contend with strict salary restrictions. This disparity exposed the inequities that exist within the league.

Relying too heavily on one player to drive the entire league’s popularity is a risky strategy. What happens when Messi gets injured or underperforms? The MLS’s overreliance on Messi’s star power set the stage for disappointment when things didn’t go as planned, leaving fans disillusioned.

Inter Miami, the chosen MLS team that secured Messi’s services, is overly reliant on him, highlighting their inadequacies when he was absent or suffering from fatigue. This exposed the lack of depth and quality in certain MLS teams, detracting from the overall competitiveness of the league.

The marketing surrounding Messi’s arrival often felt forced and cringe-worthy. The media comparing MLS to leagues like the NBA and NFL which have successfully showcased superstars, was unrealistic. The popularity gap between MLS and more established leagues like the NBA and NFL remains vast, and trying to draw such parallels was misleading.

Messi’s stint in MLS is marred by overcommercialization, an inability to capitalize on his social media following, a lack of competitiveness, salary disparities, overreliance on one player, and misguided marketing efforts.

While Messi remains an icon in the football world, his MLS adventure has so far failed to live up to the lofty expectations set for it, ultimately leaving fans disappointed.

Le marketing entourant l’arrivée de Messi semblait souvent forcé et digne de grincer des dents. Rahma wa Ghofrane fi Firdousse Naim Ameen ya Rab Alamen, les sportifs qui ont été autour de nous et avant nous, non point eu ni le mérite qu’ils et qu’elles voulaient acquérir pour leur engagement social et ils ou elles n’ont pas été réjouis durant leur vie post-sportive par une appréciation de leurs valeurs humaines ni de leurs connaissances techniques.

Nous avons vu de fabuleux génies du football creuser des tranchées avec le génie civil et cela fut considéré comme une « chance. » Le football était juste un espace entouré de petits métiers fictifs et sans lendemain dont les joueurs ont subi comme récompense de leur contribution dans la construction de celui que l’on connaît maintenant.

Le Football Marocain est devenu un grand orphelin de sa propre histoire et a perdu tout contact avec ceux qui l’ont fait grandir jusqu’à cet âge de l’indifférence et de l’amnésie absolue et c’est le même cas pathologique, sédatif et léthargique que toutes les disciplines sportives au Maroc sont en train de subir comme contagion de leurs propres état d’âmes et état d’esprit qui en somme est une stratégie voulue et bien guidée dans le but de se concentrer seulement sur les fournisseurs de fonds financiers qui accolent même le nom de leurs compagnies au championnat marocain Pro.

Former Moroccan football and handball player Abdellah Ajri, better known under the pseudonym Blinda, died Wednesday morning in a clinic in Rabat, at the age of 59.

The deceased had notably presided over the destiny of the national football team at the 1994 World Cup in the United States. He began his sporting career as a handball player and then returned to his favorite sport, football. He was, with Larbi Mouissa, the only player to have played handball and football with the national teams.

The deceased distinguished himself within the FUS, a club with which he won two Coupes du Trône in 1973 in Agadir, scoring two of his team’s three goals against Ittihad Khemisset (3-2), and in 1976 in Tangier against KAC Kenitra (1-0).

After his retirement as a player, the deceased coached several clubs in Morocco and Gulf countries including Raja Casablanca, FUS, Union Touarga, Olympique Khouribga, Ittihad Tanger and the Emirati club Banyass Abu Dhabi.

In 1993, he succeeded Abdelkhalek Louzani at the head of the national team which he led to the final stages of the World Cup in the United States after winning a victory over Zambia (1-0) in the last decisive match of the playoffs in Casablanca.

Blinda, who was a physical education teacher, recently took charge of training the Moroccan team of local players.
